Buck

Following the creation of Derry, I wanted to explore another of Scotland`s most recognisable symbols, the majestic red stag.
Buck became the first artwork in what would grow into the High Assortment, a collection celebrating the wildlife and heritage of Scotland through reclaimed timber.
Handcrafted from reclaimed oak the design aim was simplicity. rather than overwhelming the piece with detail, the sweeping antlers flowing into the grain of the wood allow each piece to speak for themselves. every piece contributing its own unique character.
Although I had not realised it at the time, buck helped establish many of the design principles that continue to influence my work today. Flowing lines that allow the timber to become part of the artwork itself.
The title Buck, given by its owner, making this piece not only the beginning of a collection, but the beginning of the connection between my work and the people who would eventually give each artwork its new home.
