Brodie

Brodie, the fourth piece in the Knockderry Collection, draws its name from Brodie Castle—an enduring symbol of Scottish heritage, resilience, and quiet grandeur. Steeped in history and surrounded by ancient woodland, the castle’s spirit is echoed here in a figure that feels both watchful and timeless.

Crafted from salvaged pine flooring from Knockderry alongside reclaimed oak, Brodie carries a deeper contrast in both tone and character. The lighter pine brings warmth and softness, while the oak introduces strength and weight—together forming a natural balance that mirrors the stag itself: still, yet powerful, calm yet commanding.

The stag has long stood as a symbol of the Highlands—a guardian of the land, moving silently through forests and glens. In Brodie, that presence is captured through layered form and flowing grain, with each carefully shaped piece of wood working to suggest movement, depth, and quiet authority. There’s no need for excess detail; the strength of the piece lies in its stillness, in the sense that it is observing rather than performing.

As the fourth work in the collection, Brodie marks a moment of grounding. Following the character and lightness of earlier pieces, it returns to something more elemental—rooted in nature, guided by tradition, and defined by presence.

Brodie is a tribute to Scotland’s wild beauty and enduring heritage. A piece that stands firm, not loud but unmistakable—crafted from the past, holding its place in the present.
